Will Murdoch and Gates change the web? (11 Comments)
I wondered if there was a psychological reason behind why the media is apocalyptic about the economy.

You don't even bother responding to points you can't refute. Why bother being part of these conversations if you're going to ignore everyone who disagrees with you?

"why the media is apocalyptic about the economy."

fear sells?

They were only apocalyptic when Bush was president and when they were trying to lobby for passage of the stimulus package. Now they're telling us that everything is fine, the numbers are turning around, we're getting better, and it's all thanks to him. All lies, of course, but...

Work around:

Battle of the billionaires! What would Warren Buffet do? He would just adapt to a changing environment and then play a game of bridge. We should bring apple into this...could itunes become ipaper? What would it cost per article? I do like the idea of crowd source funding for news:

I agree...This would not be a smart move Murdoch. I would like to know what percent of his visits and ultimately users come from Google on all his companies/sites

Good point. Think his advisors have cross-hairs on that?

"Murdoch is playing with fire here, and strategic as always Gate's is swooping in to push him over the edge."

That's my read, David. News Corporation is making the same mistake NYT columns did. The web is like the ocean ... plenty of fish.

Ultimately,
Google currently holds 70% of the online search traffic. Murdoch is playing with fire here, and strategic as always Gate's is swooping in to push him over the edge. This will be fun to watch!

If this happens, I think it could definitely change the way people get their news on the web.

If we started charging people to read news online, do you think newspaper sales would go back up? Or do you think people would be willing to pay for their news online?

Free news no more? Can Murdoch and Gates change the web?

Global media titan Rupert Murdoch wants search engines like Google, to pay for the news generated from his global News Corporation.

Microsoft may strike a deal with News Corporation to pay for news articles to appear on Bing on condition they are removed from Google.
